Reputation Partners was engaged by a national retail chain to communicate the largest event in the company’s history: a complex financial transformation requiring a majority affirmative vote from retailers in favor of the change. Just prior to announcing the proposed transition, the company discovered a significant accounting issue. Our team directed the communications strategy and helped effectively communicate the issue with minimal negative media coverage and minimal fallout from retailers or employees. Despite the significance of the issue, no regulatory action or litigation resulted, there was minimal defection of retailers, the CEO retained his position, and the company’s financials rebounded. In addition, the company preserved its ability to return to the transformation at a later date with the company’s/leadership’s reputation largely intact.
