Reputation Partners was hired by this national waste management company to direct the media and public communications regarding a methane gas investigation at one of its closed landfills. The company was simultaneously fighting two related lawsuits filed by a well-known and media-savvy plaintiffs’ attorney. We developed key messages and opened lines of communication between company, community, regulatory agencies, elected officials and media. We served as the company’s spokesperson, managed several media investigations and educated the media on the facts of the case to redirect predetermined negativity. In addition, Reputation Partners coordinated with the U.S. EPA to reach out to/educate more than 400 area residents. Our efforts allowed the company to avoid overly-critical media coverage in an era of heightened environmental awareness and resulted in favorable feedback from both local elected officials as well as the U.S. EPA. No new litigation was filed, the cleanup efforts were mostly uninterrupted, and the company ultimately settled both lawsuits on favorable terms.
